Recently, Valve announced that Counter-Strike 2, a sequel to one of its most popular games, will launch in Summer 2023. The new game will feature sharper textures, more lifelike lighting, and additional geometry. The sequel will overhaul every system, piece of content, and part of the Counter-Strike experience. Valve will introduce improvements to lighting and effects across the game’s various maps, with each map having received one of three levels of updates. Counter-Strike 2 will be a significant technical overhaul of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). Valve is moving the game to the latest version of its in-house Source 2 engine, leading to a noticeable leap in graphical fidelity.

Smokes will be responsive with bullets able to pierce holes through them, and grenades having an impact on their bloom, resulting in a massive impact on how Counter-Strike is played. The tick rates on servers have been totally removed, with sub-tick updates removing the need for servers to only update at certain intervals. Valve has confirmed that all skins from CS:GO will transfer over to Counter-Strike 2, and every single one of them will benefit from the new engine with improved lighting effects.
