The Dallas Mavericks’ acquisition of Kyrie Irving has been a disappointment, with the team struggling to win games since his arrival. The Mavericks currently have a 6-12 record since Irving joined, and their record drops to 3-7 when Irving and Luka Doncic play together. The team’s overall performance has been lackluster, and they are in 11th place in the Western Conference, with the playoffs in jeopardy.

The loss of Dorian Finney-Smith, who was part of the Irving trade, has been a significant blow to their defense. While Irving has put up impressive individual numbers, averaging 27.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.4 rebounds in 14 games with the Mavericks, the team’s overall performance has been disappointing. Head coach Jason Kidd and Doncic have expressed frustration with the team’s struggles, and Doncic even admitted this week that he’s not having fun on the court.

The Mavericks must now evaluate Irving’s future with the team, considering the cost of his contract and the players they gave up in the trade. The team’s offseason additions of Christian Wood and JaVale McGee have also been underwhelming. If the Mavericks miss the playoffs, they will become the first team in NBA history to do so twice after reaching the Western Conference finals the previous season.

In conclusion, the Dallas Mavericks’ decision to acquire Kyrie Irving has been a failure, and they must take a hard look at their future and decide whether they want to continue down this path or make significant changes to get back on track.
